Social Security Disability
If you have applied for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security disability, or if you are considering whether or not you qualify, the lawyers at NBF&M can help.
Disability is something most people do not like to think about. But the Social Security Administration reports that a 20-year old worker has a 3 in 10 chance of becoming disabled before reaching retirement age.
Disability benefits are available through two programs:
-Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
-Social Security disability insurance
SSI is a program for disabled people who do not qualify for disability insurance (i.e., they have not worked and paid into the system). It is designed to help aged, blind and disabled people with little or no income.
Social Security disability is a program for those people who have worked and paid into the system. If you have worked long enough and paid into the Social Security system, benefits for yourself and certain members of your family could be available if you are found to be "disabled".
We can help with the following steps:
Your initial application
The Request for Reconsideration (when an application is not approved)
The Request for a Hearing by an Administrative Law Judge (when an application is not approved after reconsideration)
Appearance at the Hearing before an Administrative Law Judge
Application for Review by the Appeals Council
Further appeals, if necessary
